The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Kaduna Office, organized a one-day sensitization workshop for all management staff of the institute.
The training, held on October 14, 2025, at the NAERLS Ultra-Modern Hall, was aimed at strengthening ethical standards, promoting accountability, and reinforcing anti-corruption principles among management personnel.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of ACTU-NAERLS, Prof. Jamilu Abdullahi, appreciated the Executive Director of NAERLS, Prof. Yusuf Sani, for approving and sponsoring the sensitization workshop. He noted that the training was designed to equip the management staff with the knowledge and skills needed to foster integrity in service delivery and to ensure that the lessons learned would be cascaded down to all other staff of the institute.
The ICPC team lead, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Habib K., Head of SSRD Unit, ICPC Kaduna Office, commended the ACTU of NAERLS for its consistent efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within the institute. He emphasized the importance of continuous sensitization, noting that combating corruption requires “requisite knowledge, patriotism, and courage towards achieving a corrupt-free Nigeria.”
Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Director of NAERLS, Prof. Yusuf Sani, described the initiative as “timely and essential,” given the prevalence of corruption challenges across institutions and organizations. He encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions and to step down the knowledge gained to their respective departments and colleagues.
During the workshop, three technical papers were presented by ICPC officials Assistant Chief Superintendent Saidu Muhammed and Superintendent Nafisat T. Abubakar focusing on ethical conduct, public service integrity, and mechanisms for reporting and preventing corruption.
At the end of the training, participants expressed satisfaction and enthusiasm, acknowledging that the workshop provided valuable insights into fostering transparency and good governance.
In his closing remarks, the Deputy Director of NAERLS, Prof. M. M. Jaliya, commended the ICPC officials for their commitment and insightful presentations. He also congratulated the participants for their active participation and dedication throughout the workshop.
The event reaffirmed NAERLS’s commitment to maintaining integrity, accountability, and transparency in line with national anti-corruption objectives.
