The Bomo Old Students Association, led by its caretaker committee chairman, Mr. Gabriel A. Ebute, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Professor Y. A. Sani, at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The visit, which included other members of the association, aimed to express solidarity with the leadership and staff of NAERLS, foster institutional collaboration, and propose educational support initiatives for Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Bomo.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Sani highlighted the institute’s national mandate and commitment to agricultural extension services in Nigeria. He expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated NAERLS’ dedication to supporting educational institutions and community-based initiatives where possible.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Mr. Gabriel outlined the purpose of the visit, which included building a mutual relationship between GDSS Bomo and NAERLS, exploring potential collaboration opportunities, and requesting the establishment of a demonstration farm at GDSS Bomo. The proposed farm, he noted, would serve as a practical learning facility for students and help promote interest in agriculture.
In his response, Prof. Sani acknowledged the financial constraints faced by most institutions, including NAERLS, but assured the association of the institute’s willingness to offer support in the form of capacity-building training for both students and alumni of GDSS Bomo. He also offered the use of the NAERLS training hall free of charge for the agricultural training programmes organised by the association.
To further support the initiative, the Executive Director presented a package of agricultural extension publications to the association for the benefit of GDSS Bomo’s school library.
The visit concluded with expressions of mutual commitment to future engagement. In attendance at the meeting were Mallam. Bashir Muhammad Gambo, Institute Secretary; Barrister Hadiza Kabir, Finance Officer; and Hajia Aisha, Administrative Officer.
The Bomo Old Students Association expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to follow through on the collaborative efforts discussed during the visit.
